Commentary
  • Right then, Litton Das has been handed the series-win trophy and he celebrates with his jubilant team who also pose for a team photo. We are done with the ODI series with Bangladesh clinching the series 2-1 and now the action moves on to the longest format of the game. The first Test between Bangladesh and India will be played at this very venue in Chattogram and will begin on the 14th of December at 9 am IST (3.30 am GMT). Our build-up though will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Till then, take care and goodbye!
  • Litton Das, the Bangladeshi skipper says that the way Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli batted, it took the game completely away from them. He then applauds Kishan and their bowlers tried their best but couldn't find any solutions as the wicket was very good. Mentions that 330-340 is still chasable but 400 is something that puts you under immense pressure. End by saying that they played well in the series and it just wasn't their day.
  • Mehidy Hasan is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for his consistent performances with both the bat and the ball. He says that he is happy as this is the first time he has won a Man of the Series award. Adds that India are a very good side, and to play like this against them gives them more confidence as a team. Mentions that they are doing well in this format and they have a good mixture of youth and experienced players and hopes to continue this form going into the upcoming series.
  • Ishan Kishan (210 off 131 balls) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for playing the innings of his life. Kishan says that it was a perfect wicket and a perfect chance for him to bat and he went with the flow. Adds that when there are so many senior players on the team, they do talk about grabbing opportunities as they are hard to come by at this level and the support staff also helped him a lot. Says that he was not thinking about the records and was just looking to hit the ball to the fence and it came off. Mentions that he knew the wicket would play well as early on the bowlers were getting a bit of purchase. Adds that they do take fitness seriously and the trainer pushes them hard and all the senior players and youngsters push each other.
  • KL Rahul, the captain of India says that it was brilliant to see Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan bat like that, and the bowlers finished off the job well. Adds that it was great to see Kishan play like that and take the opportunity and tells that when you have someone like Kohli on the other side it helps as well. Mentions that when you have 400+ runs on the board, the batters are going to come hard and as bowlers, you need to do the basic rights to get rewards and they did that. Tells that they haven't played that much ODI cricket and this series was a good learning curve for them and they will look to continue the momentum in the Test series.
  • The presentation ceremony...
  • Earlier in the game, Litton Das won the toss and put India into bat and it bore instant rewards as Mehidy Hasan sent Shikhar Dhawan for another low score. That was as good as it got though for Bangladesh. Virat Kohli was dropped on one and after a bit of a sluggish start, he put on a memorable 290-run stand with Ishan Kishan with the latter becoming the only batter to convert his maiden ODI hundred into a double-ton and he broke a few other records as well. Kohli too got his long-awaited 44th ODI century and India ended up with over 400 runs on the board. All the Bangladeshi bowlers received stick but the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman still managed to bowl reasonably well. With the scoreboard pressure behind them, the Bangladeshi batters never really showed any signs of troubling India and were outclassed as they lost the game by a huge margin of 227 runs.
  • India had done more than enough with the bat and they took that momentum when they came out on the field as well. The visitors did get a couple of early wickets and then the spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were able to control the middle phase with ease. Every bowler that came in picked up a wicket with Shardul Thakur leading the charts as he picked up 3 wickets. With the game out of reach of Bangladesh, Thakur and Malik were allowed to have a go at the lower order in order to boost their confidence and it did work as they took 5 wickets between them. All in all, India were the better team in every aspect of this game.
  • Bangladesh had a mammoth score to chase down and if they got there, it would have been the second-highest run chase in ODI history but they were nowhere near the target in the end. The skipper Litton Das did get off to a bit of a flier but couldn't capitalize on the start. Shakib Al Hasan too looked good and hit a few boundaries but wickets kept on falling at the other end and in the end, Shakib too crumbled under pressure. Mahmudullah tried his best to up the ante but the middle order was just unable to do anything as the required rate had risen up to over 10 runs per over. With just one wicket remaining, their two frontline pacers, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed hit a few lusty blows to decrease the margin of defeat a bit.
  • A top-notch performance from India to avoid the clean sweep and given the manner of this victory, they will be wondering why they couldn't replicate more of the same in the first two games. Bangladesh will be disappointed with that effort and even though they have won the series, this game has shown them that consistency is key to winning big tournaments.
