WhatsApp Account Banned? Here’s What You Need to Know

WhatsApp has banned lakhs of accounts, most of them due to violations of the platform’s strict policies. When an account is banned, users lose access to messages, calls, and media sharing, making the app completely unusable on their devices.

However, a ban isn’t necessarily permanent. WhatsApp provides a clear process for users to appeal if they believe their account was banned unfairly. This allows them to request a review and possibly regain access.

How to Request a Review of a WhatsApp Ban
The first step is to contact WhatsApp via email or through the app itself. Users can navigate to Settings > Help > Help Centre > Account and Account Bans to initiate a review request.

Once submitted, WhatsApp will analyze the case, verify details, and reach out with a response. During this process, users must authenticate their review request using a 6-digit registration code sent via SMS. This code ensures that only the rightful account owner can proceed with the appeal.

WhatsApp's Ban Reports and Enforcement
Earlier this week, WhatsApp released a report revealing that over 9 lakh accounts in India were banned in February 2025 for policy violations. This highlights the platform’s strict enforcement of rules to maintain a safe user experience.

For those who believe they were wrongly banned, following the correct appeal steps may help in regaining access to their accounts.
