The Indian government has issued a critical security warning for users of Microsoft Edge , urging immediate action. This week, the Chromium-based browser was flagged for several high-severity vulnerabilities by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team ( CERT-In ), a leading security agency.

CERT-In has highlighted that the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to bypass your system's security and gain access to sensitive data stored on your device. Given the severity of the risks, Edge users are advised to be vigilant.

Details of Microsoft Edge Security Issue:
In a bulletin dated October 7, 2024, CERT-In outlined the technical causes behind the security flaws in Microsoft Edge. According to the report, the vulnerabilities stem from "insufficient data validation in Mojo, inappropriate implementation in V8, and integer overflow in Layout." A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted request, potentially compromising the system.
CERT-In warns that these vulnerabilities could lead to attackers bypassing security measures and executing malicious code on the affected systems. Users should exercise caution while browsing with Microsoft Edge, as any security lapse could have serious consequences.

Who Is at Risk:
Users running Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) versions prior to 129.0.2792.79 are the most vulnerable. It is crucial to update to the latest secure build immediately to mitigate any risk.

Edge has gained popularity this year, especially with the introduction of the Copilot AI integration, making it a prime target for cyber attackers . If your system still operates on the outdated version, follow these steps to update:

  • Open the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of your browser.
  • Navigate to Help and Feedback.
  • Click on About Microsoft Edge.
  • Update to the latest available version.
  • Restart your browser.
