Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has revealed that the messaging app will be introducing the highly anticipated Stories feature in early July. Durov stated that Stories have been a long-standing demand from users, representing over half of all feature requests received by Telegram. Although initially hesitant due to the feature's ubiquity, the company has decided to listen to its users and innovate on existing formats.

Similar to Instagram Stories
Telegram Stories will bear resemblance to Instagram Stories, incorporating a range of familiar features already prevalent on the Telegram platform. Users will have the ability to customize their story's visibility, choosing between options such as everyone, contacts, selected individuals, or a list of close friends. The Stories section will be collapsible and located at the top of the chat list for easy access.

Enhanced Privacy and Customization
To provide users with greater control, Telegram Stories will offer the option to hide stories from specific contacts by moving them to a "Hidden" list in the Contacts section, removing them from the main screen. Additionally, users can leverage various photo and video editing tools, add captions, include links, and tag other individuals in their stories. Furthermore, Telegram Stories will allow simultaneous posting from both front and rear cameras, similar to the Be-Real app.

Flexible Story Duration and Profile Highlights
Telegram users will be able to specify the duration of their stories, with options ranging from six to 48 hours. Moreover, similar to Instagram's Story highlights, users can choose to permanently display select stories on their profile page, making profiles more informative and vibrant. This feature will enable users to explore content from their closest contacts while discovering more about individuals in groups or channel comments.

Boosting Exposure and Virality
In an effort to boost exposure for channels, Telegram will introduce the ability to repost messages from channels to stories. This feature will facilitate increased subscriber engagement and make it easier for content to go viral on the platform.

A New Era for Telegram
After conducting internal tests, even the most skeptical members of the Telegram team began to appreciate the Stories feature. Durov emphasized that Telegram can no longer imagine its messaging service without it. The Stories feature is currently undergoing final testing and is scheduled to be available to users in early July. Durov believes this addition will usher in a new era for Telegram, making the platform even more social and interactive for its users.
