Snapchat is introducing a new feature called "Footsteps" that allows users to track their location history on the Snap Map . This feature lets you view the places you’ve visited or explored, providing an overview of your travel history.

According to Techcrunch, Snapchat confirmed that the Footsteps feature , which was previously only accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers, will now be available to all iPhone users .

When using Footsteps for the first time, your location data will be based on the Snaps saved in your Memories, allowing you to see your past trips. After the initial setup, the feature will no longer rely on your Memories but will instead use your location data to track new travels.

The Footsteps feature not only logs the countries you have visited, but it also tracks how extensively you have explored a particular area. This is determined by where you have taken Snaps, meaning the accuracy of the data depends on how frequently you use the app to capture moments.

Snapchat assures users that the Footsteps data is private and only visible to them. The feature can be easily disabled by toggling off the "Save new Footsteps as my location updates on the map" option under the "Map" tab in the app's settings. There is also an option to clear your location history using the "Clear Footsteps History" feature.

In addition to location tracking , Footsteps also lets you share a customized sticker with friends that reflects your travel history. However, this feature won't function if you have Ghost Mode activated, which hides your location from others on the app.

Although a timeline hasn't been provided, Snapchat stated that the Footsteps feature will soon be available to Android users as well.

Earlier in the month, Snapchat announced several new features at its 2024 Partner Summit, including the ability to switch between public and private profiles, and an AI-powered lens that allows users to see an aged version of themselves.
