NANDA: UAE’s G42 Launches AI Model Catering To Hindi-Speaking Users

G42, a prominent AI company from the UAE, has introduced a new large language model ( LLM ) called NANDA , specifically designed to serve Hindi-speaking communities.

With an impressive 13 billion parameters, NANDA has been trained on approximately 2.13 trillion tokens, including a vast amount of Hindi language data. The unveiling of this AI model took place at the India-UAE business forum in Mumbai, during the official visit of Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India.

NANDA derives its name from one of India’s tallest mountain peaks. It was developed in collaboration by G42’s subsidiary, Inception , Cerebras Systems , and researchers from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE.

The AI model underwent training on Condor Galaxy , one of the most powerful AI supercomputers designed for training and inference, a product of G42’s partnership with Cerebras. According to the company, NANDA will be officially launched in the near future.

“G42 has a strong track record in the development of language and domain-specific LLMs. With NANDA, we are heralding a new era of AI inclusivity, ensuring that the rich heritage and depth of Hindi language is represented in the digital and AI landscape. NANDA exemplifies G42’s unwavering commitment to excellence and fostering equitable AI,” said Dr Andrew Jackson , acting CEO of Inception.

In August 2023, G42 introduced JAIS, an open-source Arabic LLM, positioning it as the first of its kind globally. The model ranges from 590 million to 70 billion parameters, and G42 intends to replicate this success in regions where languages are underrepresented, including Hindi.

Earlier this year, G42’s health-tech arm also launched two new models of its Med42 LLM, an AI assistant designed to assist clinicians, administrators, insurers, and patients. Additionally, Microsoft recently made a $1.5 billion investment in G42, further solidifying the company's influence in the global AI market.
