WhatsApp continues to enhance its functionality, ensuring users stay on top of their conversations. The latest addition to the app’s features is Message Reminders, designed to alert users about unread messages. Previously available only for status updates, this feature now expands to messages, making it even more practical for those with a busy lifestyle. Here’s everything you need to know about the new feature.

What Is the Message Reminders Feature ?

The Message Reminders feature notifies users about unread messages that may have been missed in their chat list. Whether it’s due to work or other distractions, this feature ensures important messages don’t go unnoticed.

Originally introduced for unseen status updates, the reminders feature has now been extended to cover messages. However, the rollout is currently limited to select beta users on Android. A wider release for all users is expected soon.

How Does It Work?

According to a report by WABetainfo, a platform tracking WhatsApp’s upcoming features, this functionality is included in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.25.29, available via the Google Play Store.

The new Reminders toggle is integrated into WhatsApp’s notification settings. When enabled, users will receive periodic reminders for both unread messages and unseen statuses.

A screenshot shared in the report shows the Reminders option under the notification settings. The description mentions that users “will sometimes get reminders for messages and statuses you haven’t seen.”

How to Enable or Disable Message Reminders

If you wish to manage the Message Reminders feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp app and navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap on the Notifications tab.
  3. Locate the toggle next to Reminders and turn it on or off as desired.

This flexibility allows users to customize their experience based on their preferences.

Why Is This Feature Useful?

The Message Reminders feature is particularly beneficial for those who often miss messages due to work or other commitments. By sending periodic reminders, WhatsApp ensures that no message goes unread, reducing the chances of missing out on something important.

Current Availability

At present, the Message Reminders feature is available only to select beta users on Android as part of a testing phase. Once the testing is complete and the feature is refined, it will be rolled out to all users in the stable version of the app.

WhatsApp’s continuous updates, like the Message Reminders feature, reflect its commitment to enhancing user convenience. With this addition, users can look forward to a more seamless communication experience, ensuring no conversation is left behind.
