Google Tests New Chrome Feature For Auto-Revoking Website Permissions

Google Chrome , a leading internet browser for both mobile and desktop platforms, is introducing a new feature that will automatically revoke website permissions. This feature was recently spotted in the Chrome Canary build for Android. It is particularly useful for users who may have granted permissions for notifications, microphone, or camera access to various websites and then forgotten about them.

According to Leopeva64's post on X (formerly Twitter), this new functionality is found under the "Automatically remove permissions" toggle in Site Settings . As the name implies, it allows Chrome to automatically revoke permissions that haven't been used for a significant period. This is especially beneficial for users who have granted notification permissions to websites they no longer visit.

To recap, this feature has been available on the Chrome desktop version for quite some time, but it's making its debut on the mobile app . Currently in the experimental phase, it's expected to roll out to the stable channel with Chrome 128, slated for release next month.

In addition to this permission-revoking feature, Google is also testing a new setting that lets users determine how long a tab can remain inactive before it is moved to the " Inactive tabs " section of the browser.
