Google Photos Introduces 'Photo Stacks' Feature on Android, Check How it Works
Google has recently been testing an innovative feature for its Photos app called ' Photo Stacks ,' which utilises artificial intelligence (AI) to intelligently group similar images. Initially, the feature was available to a select group of iOS users, but it is now being rolled out to Android users as well.
This new AI-powered functionality aims to declutter and organise photo collections by automatically grouping images into stacks, creating a convenient mini-album. The AI algorithm works to identify the best shot and positions it at the top of the stack, although users have the flexibility to change the cover image or disable the feature altogether.
For users eligible for Photo Stacks, the option to enable it will prompt automatically when launching the Google Photos app. Alternatively, users can access the toggle in the app settings by tapping the profile picture icon in the top right corner of the screen if they prefer not to enable it by default.
Although users can create stacks containing up to 100 photos, it appears that only images backed up on Google's cloud servers can be used. To be eligible for Photo Stacks, users may need to enable Google Photos backup on their accounts.
In addition to the Photo Stacks feature, the Photos app now includes a helpful change that categorises screenshots and documents into separate albums within the gallery. Google has mentioned that Photo Stacks will be gradually introduced to more Android users in the coming days. However, as the update is server-side, users might have to wait a few weeks or even months before it becomes available on their devices.
