Google App Update: New ‘Share’ Button Streamlines Link Sharing On Android

Google has rolled out an update to its Android app, introducing a handy new feature that simplifies the process of sharing links found in search results . This latest addition aims to streamline the user experience by eliminating the need to open links before sharing them.

The new ‘Share’ button, first noticed by Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii on X (formerly Twitter), now sits prominently above the ‘About this result’ section. To access it, users simply need to tap on the three-dot button located to the right of the search result .

Once clicked, the ‘Share’ button triggers the familiar Android system share sheet, providing users with various options such as copying the link, sharing it directly with contacts, or sending it to compatible apps. Previously, users had to wait for the page to load before being able to copy the link, but this new feature eliminates that extra step.

It’s worth noting that the share button may not be available for certain search results, such as those leading to apps on the Google Play Store. Despite this limitation, the overall aim remains to enhance user convenience and efficiency when sharing links.

For desktop users accustomed to right-clicking to copy and share links, Google has also made adjustments. Clicking on the three-dot button adjacent to a search result now opens a compact panel offering additional information about the website. From here, users can choose to share the link, save it for later, or provide feedback to Google regarding the search result.

This update comes on the heels of previous enhancements to the Google app on Android, including the introduction of the Notes feature, allowing users to leave and read notes directly on search results. Additionally, the tech giant introduced Search with Generative AI (SGE) functionality, leveraging AI-generated summaries to improve search result comprehension.
