Apple Unveils iOS 17 And iPadOS 17, Set To Launch On This Day, Check Here
Apple has recently announced the upcoming release of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, scheduled for download starting September 18. These updates were first revealed by the Cupertino-based company during this year's WWDC conference, alongside MacOS 10, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17.
A Release Candidate of iOS 17 is already available to Apple developers and beta users, giving them a sneak peek at the features that will be accessible to the general public in a few days. Apple continues its tradition of releasing software updates shortly after launching new iPhones , with iOS 16 arriving on September 12 and iOS 15 on September 20 in previous years.
Here's a glimpse of the new features you can expect in iOS 17:
StandBy Option:
iOS 17 introduces the StandBy option, turning your iPhone into an information hub. This feature allows users to access customisable full-screen information, such as display time, Live Activities , incoming notifications, and a variety of widgets right on the locked screen. It's worth noting that this feature is active when your Apple iPhone is charging.
New Widgets:
iOS 17 expands widget functionality, enabling interactive widgets on both the lock screen and home screen for Apple iPhones. These widgets are compatible with both first-party and third-party apps.
NameDrop :
A new NameDrop feature leverages AirDrop to simplify sharing contact information between two iPhones, making it easier than ever to exchange contact details.
Updates to Phone and Messages App:
iOS 17 enhances the Phone app with customisable Contact Posters, giving users control over what their contacts see when calling them. Additional features like live voicemail and the ability to silence unknown callers will be rolled out in specific regions.
FaceTime App Improvements:
With iOS 17, iPhone users gain the ability to record and send audio/video messages if they miss a call. During FaceTime calls, users can add 3D effects to their video feed. Additionally, initiating a FaceTime call directly on Apple TV is now possible.
