Amazon Unveils Budget-Friendly Amazon Prime Lite with Striking Features
Amazon introduced its budget-friendly offering, Amazon Prime Lite , back in June of this year, presenting a more economical alternative to its standard Prime plans while sacrificing some features. This move was aimed at broadening the accessibility of its services to a larger audience. With Amazon Prime Lite , subscribers can enjoy the convenience of two-day delivery on their Amazon purchases without incurring any additional charges.
The latest update in India brings a significant reduction in the Amazon Prime Lite subscription price. Originally priced at Rs 999 for a one-year subscription, it is now available at the more affordable rate of Rs 799, reflecting a noteworthy Rs 200 price cut. This strategic pricing adjustment appears to be a deliberate effort by the company to attract a wider user base.
In terms of features, Amazon Prime Lite differs from the standard Prime subscription. While the regular Prime membership offers expedited delivery options such as one-day and same-day delivery, Prime Lite focuses solely on the two-day delivery benefit. For urgent orders, Prime members have the additional option of availing Amazon's Morning Delivery for a supplementary Rs. 175 per order, a feature not included in the Lite version.
One notable distinction lies in the streaming capabilities. In Amazon Prime Lite, the streaming quality on Prime Video is limited to unlimited video streaming in HD on two mobile devices. In contrast, regular Prime members enjoy the luxury of streaming in 4K on up to six devices simultaneously. Furthermore, Prime Lite subscribers do not have access to Prime Music content.
A distinctive aspect of Amazon Prime Lite is the inclusion of ads, a feature that is set to become part of the standard Prime subscription as well. These advertisements are promised to be "limited" in nature. Amazon asserts that implementing ads will enable the company to continue investing in the creation of high-quality content for its viewers.
It's worth noting that Amazon recently confirmed an additional cost for subscribers in certain countries, including the US, UK, Germany, and Canada, starting January 29, 2024. Subscribers in these regions will need to pay an extra $2.99 (approximately Rs 240) per month. While this change has not been implemented in India as of now, there is speculation that similar adjustments might be introduced in the Indian market in the near future.
