Sri Lankan Players Soar In ICC Test Rankings After Victory Over England

Six Sri Lankan players have surged up the ICC Men’s Test Rankings following their remarkable eight-wicket victory over England at The Oval. The charge was led by key performances from captain Dhananjaya de Silva, all-rounder Kamindu Mendis , and opener Pathum Nissanka , who played pivotal roles in this memorable triumph.

De Silva, the standout player for Sri Lanka in the first innings with a composed knock of 69, climbed three spots to reach 13th in the ICC Test batting rankings, marking a career-high position.

Kamindu Mendis also made a significant jump, moving up six places to 19th after contributing a crucial half-century. Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka’s impressive scores of 64 and an unbeaten 127 saw him leap 42 spots to take the 39th position.

Among the bowlers, Sri Lankan pacer Vishwa Fernando led the charge with a remarkable 13-place rise to reach joint 31st, thanks to his five-wicket haul at The Oval. Lahiru Kumara also made a significant leap, moving up 10 places to 32nd, while Milan Rathnayake saw a 26-place rise to settle in 84th after his contributions with the ball.

For England, despite a disappointing outing, Joe Root retained his position as the top-ranked Test batter, even after low scores of 13 and 12. Harry Brook, however, fell seven places to 12th following his struggles with the bat.

Stand-in captain Ollie Pope’s century in the first innings helped him rise seven places to a joint 27th position, while wicketkeeper Jamie Smith moved up six spots to 30th after his quickfire fifty. England pacer Olly Stone improved his standing, jumping 13 places to 74th, following his three wickets in the first innings.

In the men’s T20I rankings, following Australia’s 3-0 clean sweep over Scotland, captain Mitch Marsh gained two places to be joint 17th, while wicketkeeper Josh Inglis jumped 28 places to 23rd. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa moved up one spot to 7th, while Scotland’s Bradley Currie made a 20-place leap to reach 49th in the bowlers’ rankings.
