Getting Married?: Shubman Gill Turns Red as Danny Morrison Poses Personal Query
It was a match full of surprises at Eden Gardens, but none more unexpected than what happened even before the game began. As Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill walked out for the toss against his former team Kolkata Knight Riders, he found himself fielding a personal question rather than a cricketing one.
During the pitch-side chat, commentator Danny Morrison threw Gill a curveball. “Look at you! You’re looking lovely! No wedding bells? What’s happening? Getting married?" he quipped, catching the young cricketer off guard.
Gill, with a smile, quickly shut down the speculation. “No. Nothing of that sort!” he replied, leaving fans and commentators chuckling.
But if Morrison’s question made Gill blush, his bat did all the talking soon after. Facing his old franchise, the 25-year-old opener delivered a commanding 90 off 55 balls, leading Gujarat Titans to an imposing total of 198/3. His dazzling knock included 10 boundaries and three sixes, setting the tone for a convincing victory.
So far in the IPL season, Gill has amassed 305 runs from 8 innings, maintaining an average of 43.57 and a strike rate of 153.27, proving to be a vital cog in GT’s top-order machinery.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Gill said, “Good teams close the game very well. In this format it’s very difficult to have a perfect game. Even today maybe 10 more runs if I had stayed there. But still you have to find a way to win the game and that’s what we’re really good at.”
Gill wasn’t alone in the scoring act. His opening partner Sai Sudharsan once again impressed, scoring 52 off 36 balls to become the leading run-getter of the season. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler chipped in with an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls to finish the innings on a high.
In response, KKR faltered under pressure, managing just 159/8 in their 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with a fighting half-century, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27*) and Andre Russell (21) were the only others to pass 20 runs.
The loss marks KKR’s fifth defeat in eight matches, keeping them in 7th place on the points table with six points. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, continued their stellar run, now sitting atop the standings with 12 points from six wins and two losses, and an impressive net run-rate of 1.104.
