The Indian men's cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma , secured a 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test, sweeping the two-match series 2-0. Despite rain interruptions, India chased down the target of 95 runs in just 17.2 overs on the fifth day at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.

This win, recorded on Tuesday (October 1), bolstered India’s lead in the 2023-25 World Test Championship ( WTC ) points table. After suffering back-to-back losses in the series, Bangladesh has slipped to the seventh position with a PCT% of 34.38.

Having whitewashed Bangladesh, India’s next challenge will be a three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16 in Bengaluru. The second and third Tests will be held in Pune and Mumbai, respectively. After this series, India is set to travel to Australia for a much-anticipated five-match Test series.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the 2024-25 season will commence on November 22 in Perth, followed by matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

India needs to win at least four of their remaining eight Test matches and avoid penalties to ensure a spot in the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive time.

India has reached the WTC final twice before, suffering a 209-run defeat against Australia in 2023 at The Oval and losing by 8 wickets to New Zealand in the 2021 final in Southampton.
