The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to take place from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan—Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi—along with an additional venue in Dubai. However, as the eight-team tournament prepares to make a comeback after eight years, a wave of injuries has already impacted its star-studded lineup. Several key players have been ruled out, raising concerns about the competitiveness of the event.

Jasprit Bumrah (India)
India suffered a major blow as ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out due to a lower back injury on February 12. “The BCCI took to X on Tuesday night to confirm the development.” Bumrah, who last played a 50-over match in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, will now miss another crucial tournament for India.

Pat Cummins (Australia)
Australia's captain and pace spearhead Pat Cummins will also be absent from the Champions Trophy. Initially named as the team’s skipper for the event, Cummins was ruled out on February 6 due to an injury sustained after the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Josh Hazlewood (Australia)
Another setback for Australia came with the unavailability of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood. The experienced pacer, who has 138 wickets in 91 ODIs, was ruled out due to a hip injury suffered during the third India-Australia Test in Brisbane last year.

Mitchell Marsh (Australia)
Australia’s all-rounder and T20I captain Mitchell Marsh will also miss the tournament due to a back injury. “Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s Champion’s Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction,” Cricket Australia announced on January 31. Marsh is unlikely to return to competitive cricket this season.

Anrich Nortje (South Africa)
South African pacer Anrich Nortje, who last played an ODI on September 9, 2023, was initially included in the Champions Trophy squad but was later ruled out on January 15 due to a back injury. MI Cape Town all-rounder Corbin Bosch was named as his replacement on February 9.

Jacob Bethell (England)
England’s young all-rounder Jacob Bethell was forced to withdraw from the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury in the first ODI against India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on February 6.

Mitchell Starc (Australia)
Adding to Australia’s woes, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc pulled out of the tournament on February 12. “According to cricket.com.au, the reason for Starc’s withdrawal remains private, but it has been reported that he looked to be in discomfort with a left ankle issue during the second innings of the second Test played against Sri Lanka last week.”

Saim Ayub (Pakistan)
Pakistan’s rising star, opening batter Saim Ayub, was left out of the 15-member squad due to an ankle injury sustained during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town last month.

Allah Ghazanfar (Afghanistan)
Afghanistan also suffered a setback with the loss of 18-year-old spinner Allah Ghazanfar. “He was ruled out of the Champions Trophy on Wednesday due to a fracture in the L4 vertebra, specifically in the left pars interarticularis.” The young spinner, who has taken 21 wickets in 11 ODIs, will be out of action for at least four months after sustaining the injury on Afghanistan’s recent tour of Zimbabwe.
