Axar Patel Makes History: First DC Captain to Win 4 Straight IPL Matches

Hero Image
In a remarkable feat, Axar Patel has etched his name in the Delhi Capitals' history books by becoming the first captain to lead the franchise to four consecutive wins at the start of an IPL season. The 31-year-old all-rounder surpassed Virender Sehwag’s previous record of three wins in the first three matches during the 2009 IPL season in South Africa.

Under Patel’s leadership, DC has been unstoppable in IPL 2025, securing victories against Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

DC’s Dominant Run Under Axar Patel’s Captaincy
  • Debut Win vs LSG (March 24, Visakhapatnam)
  • A thrilling 1-wicket victory in a last-over finish.
  • Commanding Win vs SRH (March 30, Visakhapatnam)
  • A 7-wicket triumph over Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad.
  • Clinical Performance vs CSK (April 5, Chennai)
  • A 25-run win against the defending champions.
  • Record Chase vs RCB (April 10, Bengaluru)
  • A 6-wicket win, powered by KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93 and a record 111-run fifth-wicket stand with Tristan Stubbs.

KL Rahul’s Masterclass Against RCB
The Bengaluru-born wicketkeeper-batter played a match-winning knock against his former franchise, smashing 93 off 53 balls* (7 fours, 6 sixes). His 111-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (38 off 23) broke DC’s previous record for the highest fifth-wicket stand in IPL history (previously held by JP Duminy & Ross Taylor with 110 runs in 2014).

RCB’s Unwanted Record at Chinnaswamy
With this loss, Royal Challengers Bengaluru now hold the dubious distinction of suffering the most defeats at a single venue in IPL history—45 losses at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Delhi Capitals follow closely with 44 losses at Arun Jaitley Stadium, while Kolkata Knight Riders have lost 38 times at Eden Gardens.

What’s Next for DC?
With four wins in four matches, Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals are emerging as serious title contenders this season. Can they maintain this winning momentum and clinch their maiden IPL trophy? Only time will tell.
