Golden Veggie Delights: Easy-To-Make Homemade Nuggets
Veg nuggets are a vegetarian or vegan alternative to chicken nuggets. They are typically made from a combination of vegetables, grains, and legumes that are shaped into bite-sized pieces and breaded or coated with a crispy outer layer.
Here's a simple recipe to prepare veg nuggets:
Ingredients:
2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn, beans), finely chopped or grated
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup boiled mashed potatoes
1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
For the batter:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water
Salt to taste
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine the chopped vegetables, mashed potatoes, grated cheese (if using), onion, garlic, ginger paste, cumin powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix everything well.
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan and sauté the vegetable mixture for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are cooked and the mixture becomes dry. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Once the mixture is cool, take small portions of it and shape them into small nuggets or any desired shape.
In a shallow bowl, mix all-purpose flour, water, and salt to form a smooth batter.
Dip each nugget into the batter, ensuring it is coated evenly.
Roll the coated nugget in breadcrumbs, making sure to cover it completely. Repeat this process for all the nuggets.
Place the breaded nuggets on a tray or plate and refrigerate them for about 15-20 minutes. This will help them firm up.
Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet for frying. Make sure the oil is hot enough.
Carefully place the nuggets in the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry them until golden brown and crispy. Flip them occasionally to ensure even frying.
Once done, remove the nuggets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
Serve the veg nuggets hot with ketchup, chutney, or any dip of your choice.
Enjoy your homemade veg nuggets as a snack or as a part of a meal!
