Weather Update: IMD Issues Rain Alert for Several States, Heatwave Grips North India
As temperatures continue to climb across large parts of India, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update highlighting a dual scenario: intense heat in the north and rainfall activity in the east and south. With some regions baking under 40°C temperatures, others may soon see a spell of rain and thunderstorms.
Scorching Heat Persists in Delhi and Northern States
Delhi and the surrounding NCR continue to experience hot and dry weather. Daytime temperatures remain high, with the mercury refusing to dip. Light winds at 10–15 km/h may offer minor relief, but there’s no rain in sight.
- Minimum temperature: 26°C at night
- Heatwave status: Ongoing
- Advice: Stay indoors during peak sun hours and remain well-hydrated
In addition to Delhi, other northern states like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Rajasthan are witnessing a rise of 2-4°C in temperatures, making daily life increasingly uncomfortable.
Relief in Sight for East and South India
While the north burns, eastern and southern states are in for a weather shift. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in several regions over the next 12 hours, which may bring temporary relief from the heat.
- Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal: Thunderstorms with lightning
- Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala: Light to moderate rain expected
- Karnataka, Chhattisgarh: Continued scattered rainfall
These showers might cool things down briefly but could also lead to issues like waterlogging and localized disruptions.
Rain Expected in Parts of Central India Too
Central India and some areas in Maharashtra may also witness thunderstorms and rain between April 14–15. This could help ease the rising temperatures and bring some short-lived comfort to residents.
Safety First: What You Should Do
With contrasting weather patterns sweeping across India, staying weather-aware is key. Here are a few precautions:
- Check daily IMD alerts before stepping out
- Limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours
- Keep children and elderly safe and hydrated
- Drive cautiously on wet roads
From blazing heat in the north to incoming showers in the east and south, India's April weather is proving to be a mixed bag. Stay informed, stay safe, and take the right steps to protect yourself and your family from sudden weather shifts.
