The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather warnings across the country. These include heavy rainfall in several regions and heatwave conditions in isolated areas. Here's a breakdown of the weather patterns expected over the next few days.

Heavy Rainfall Across India

The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall due to two active troughs influencing weather conditions in different parts of the country.

North India

A Western Disturbance, linked to a cyclonic circulation over north and central Pakistan, will bring scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 km/h) to the Western Himalayan Region, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, on April 21 and 22.

Northeast India

  • The region will see widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–50 km/h) due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and an east-west trough extending from Rajasthan to Bangladesh.
  • Heavy rainfall is expected from April 21–26 in Assam and Meghalaya, April 22–26 in Arunachal Pradesh, and April 21 and 23 in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

South India
Scattered light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–50 km/h), is forecast for Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Kerala, and Mahe until April 26.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala on April 21, and lightning activity will be widespread in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana during this period.

Heatwave Alerts for Several States

The IMD has also issued heatwave warnings for various regions over the coming days.

  • East Rajasthan will experience heatwave conditions from April 21–26.
  • Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are expected to see heatwaves from April 21–25.
  • Haryana and Odisha could experience heatwaves from April 22–25, while Uttar Pradesh is likely to face similar conditions from April 22–26.
  • Punjab, West Rajasthan, and Gangetic West Bengal will likely see heatwaves between April 23–26.

Additionally, warm night conditions are expected in parts of Bihar from April 23–26, with hot and humid weather prevailing in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Marathwada, and Gujarat during the same period.
