Weather Forecast Update: IMD Predicts Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms in These States Till May 4

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across multiple parts of India. From the Northeast to the South, and even Delhi, various regions are set to experience an active spell of weather till May 4.


Heavy Rainfall in the Northeast


  • States like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rainfall on April 28.

  • Light to moderate showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph, reaching up to 60 kmph) are forecast over the next 4–5 days.

  • Assam and Meghalaya could witness thundersqualls on April 29, with severe wind activity.

Showers Expected in Eastern India


  • Gangetic West Bengal is likely to see heavy rain on April 28.
  • Jharkhand may receive intense showers on April 29 and May 1.
  • Odisha is expected to experience rainfall spells until May 1.
  • Kerala is also under a heavy rain watch until April 30.

Rain Spells for Southern States


  • Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu may experience scattered rain and thunderstorms till May 4.
  • Strong winds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, are expected in these regions.
  • North Interior Karnataka faces an additional threat of thundersqualls, with wind speeds touching 50-60 kmph till May 1.

Delhi Braces for Light Rain and Heat


  • A yellow alert is out for Delhi, predicting light rain and thunderstorms on April 29.
  • Maximum temperatures could hover around 42°C today.
  • Relief is on the horizon with chances of light rain from May 2.

Heatwave Warnings for Northern States


  • Isolated heatwave conditions are likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad until April 29.
  • Haryana and Himachal Pradesh could experience heatwave-like conditions till April 30.
  • Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan may continue to face soaring temperatures till May 1.
