New BH Plate Rules: 14 Years' Tax To Be Paid In A Lump Sum By BH Number Plate Holders
The tax burden has increased for those opting for the Bharat (BH) number plates. The Transport Department has updated its policy to require a lump sum tax payment for 14 years for BH Number Registration, replacing the previous two-year tax period.
For vehicles already registered with a BH number, owners are now required to pay taxes for an additional 12 years. Following the department's directive, the District Transport Office has begun the necessary procedures.
Notices to Be Issued to Vehicle Owners
The Transport Office is preparing to send notices to 731 vehicle owners who currently have a BH number, instructing them to pay the additional tax. These owners will have a 60-day window to comply with the payment requirement.
Previously, obtaining a BH number required a two-year tax deposit, with the option to renew after this period. The new rule mandates a one-time payment covering 14 years.
60-Day Compliance Period
Owners who initially secured a BH number with a two-year tax payment must now pay for the remaining 12 years. They will be given 60 days to fulfill this obligation.
Many individuals who registered their vehicles with a two-year BH number did not renew it, leading to a loss in government revenue.
What Is the BH Series Number Plate ?
The BH series number plate is designed for individuals working in government or reputable private companies who may be transferred anywhere in the country. It applies to central and state government employees, PSU departments, defense personnel, and private companies with offices in at least four states or union territories. Vehicles with this number plate do not require a new plate when moving between states.
The recent changes to the BH number plate rules now require a 14-year tax payment. Vehicle owners who previously paid for only two years must complete a 12-year tax payment within 60 days, with notices sent to the affected individuals.
