The Income Tax Department has issued a notice stating that a validated bank account is necessary to receive tax refunds. They recommend checking your bank account validation status on the e-filing portal and have provided a step-by-step guide for the validation process.
Steps to Validate Your Bank Account
1. Log In to the Income Tax Portal
First, log in to the Income Tax portal. New users need to create a username and password, while existing users can log in with their existing credentials.
2. Access Your Profile
Once logged in, navigate to your profile where you'll find a drop-down menu. Select 'Profile Settings' from the options available.
3. Enter Bank Account Details
In 'Profile Settings,' choose 'Pre-validate Your Bank Account' or 'Bank Account E-Verification.' You'll need to enter your bank name, account number, IFSC code, and the mobile number registered with your bank.
4. Validate Your Account
You can validate your account using an Electronic Verification Code (EVC) or through internet banking:
- Using EVC: If your bank account and mobile number are linked with Aadhaar, select the EVC option. An OTP will be sent to your mobile. Enter this OTP on the portal to validate your account.
- Using Internet Banking: If internet banking is active on your account, you'll be redirected to your bank's website. Log in to your bank account to complete the validation process.
5. Confirmation Message
After the validation process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that your bank account has been successfully validated.
