How To Check Your EPF Balance On Your Passbook: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you are an EPF (Employees Provident Fund ) subscriber and need to check your passbook or the status of your claim, you can easily do this online. Here’s how:


To access your passbook online, ensure you are registered on the unified member portal. The passbook becomes available six hours after registration, and any changes to your credentials will take effect on the EPFO portal after six hours.

Steps to Check Your EPFO Passbook:

1. Visit the EPFO Website :

Go to epfindia.gov.in and navigate to the 'For Employees' section under 'Services' on the top left of the blue ribbon at the top of the page.


2. Access Member Passbook :

Under 'Services,' select 'Member Passbook' from the top of the list of options.

3. Navigate to Passbook Page:

Clicking on 'Member Passbook' will redirect you to a new webpage with the URL: passbook.epfindia.gov.in.


4. Login:

Enter your UAN and password, and complete the captcha before clicking 'Sign In.'

5. Enter OTP:

A six-digit OTP will be sent to your phone number linked to Aadhaar. Enter this OTP to proceed.

6. View Account Details:

If you don't receive the OTP, you can request it again. Once the system accepts the OTP, your account details will be displayed on the EPF website. Note that the passbook will only show entries reconciled at EPFO field offices.

How to Withdraw Money:

If you plan to withdraw money from your EPF account, you can apply for the claim online. Ensure the following:


  • Your UAN is activated.
  • The phone number linked to your UAN is functional.
  • Relevant details are seeded in the EPFO database for the claim to process smoothly.
