How a Noida Engineer Reduced His Rent from ₹64,000 to ₹19,000 by Moving to Goa

Raj, an engineer in the web3 space, had enough of life in Noida. Last year, he shared a picture of the "dreamy view" from his 3BHK apartment in Noida, but the sarcasm was hard to miss. His flat overlooked a neighboring building, and despite paying ₹64,000 per month in rent (plus maintenance), the view was far from scenic. It was a price he paid for living in the heart of the Delhi NCR region, but the reality of high rent and air pollution soon wore him down.

"I had spent my entire life in Delhi NCR and was done with the air pollution," Raj told HT.com. He had been contemplating a move for some time and considered two destinations: Bengaluru and Goa. In the end, he chose Goa, drawn by its small-town vibe and the promise of a fresh start.

In June of last year, Raj’s post about the sky-high rents in Noida generated a lot of attention, especially when he mentioned his monthly rent of ₹64,000 for a 3BHK apartment with a disappointing view. Fast forward to this year, and Raj has a very different story to tell.

"Update: moved to Goa. 19k/month rent is so worth it," he shared in a new post, highlighting his drastic change in living expenses. He now pays just ₹19,000 per month for his new apartment in Goa, a steep drop from his previous rent.

The benefits go beyond the rent savings. His new apartment in Goa features a covered patio that overlooks a serene tree-filled landscape, offering a much-needed contrast to the concrete views in Noida. Raj’s shift from city life to Goa’s more relaxed atmosphere has been rewarding in ways that go beyond money.

Raj shared that he had only recently moved—just two weeks ago—and despite the newness of the experience, he’s had a smooth transition. When asked if he faced any hostility from locals, he replied, “I just came here two weeks ago and got an apartment last week—so can’t comment on healthcare. But haven’t faced any hostility from anyone so far.”

His new place also comes with practical amenities like an inverter and reliable Wi-Fi, which makes the transition even easier.

Raj’s move to Goa isn’t just a financial decision. It’s a lifestyle change that brings more peace, nature, and a more affordable living situation. For him, it’s about upgrading to a place that aligns better with his needs and values—beyond just saving on rent.
