Heatwave Alert: UP, MP, Bihar, Odisha Adjust School Timings – Latest Updates
With temperatures soaring across North and Central India, multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha, have revised school timings to protect students from extreme heat. District Magistrates (DMs) have issued official orders adjusting opening and closing hours for schools in affected regions.
Uttar Pradesh: Early Start, Early Closure
In Prayagraj, all schools (Classes 1–8) under all education boards will now operate from 7 AM to 12 PM starting Wednesday. The order was issued by Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Praveen Kumar Tiwari on DM Ravindra Kumar Mandal’s instructions.
Similarly, Lucknow has altered timings for schools up to Class 12. Schools will now open at 7:30 AM and close by 1:00 PM. The DM’s directive aims to minimize heat exposure during peak afternoon hours.
District authorities in other UP regions with severe heatwaves can independently decide on timing changes.
- Madhya Pradesh, Bihar & Odisha Follow Suit
- MP’s Ujjain: Schools up to Class 12 will run from 7 AM to 12 PM.
Bihar: Government primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools will operate from 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM until June 1 (previously 10 AM–4 PM).
Odisha: School timings have also been adjusted, though specifics vary by district.
Why the Change?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of persistent heatwave conditions, prompting preemptive measures. Early closures aim to safeguard students and staff from heat-related illnesses.
Parents and students are advised to check local district orders for updates. Private schools in affected areas are expected to comply with state directives.
