Gyanvapi Mosque Controversy: Masjid Faction Set To Seek Supreme Court Intervention On ASI Survey
Following the recent Varanasi court order, the mosque's representatives are expected to approach the Supreme Court on Monday, seeking an immediate listing of their case. Their primary objective is to request a stay on the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey that has been permitted within the contested Gyanvapi mosque premises. The Varanasi court's decision, issued on Friday, had granted permission for a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, situated adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
The Varanasi court has stated that the "wuzukhana" (the place for ablution) containing the 'Shivling' will remain excluded from the ASI's "scientific survey".
Tomorrow, Anjuman Intezamia Masjid is planning to file an appeal in the apex court. The appeal will request a stay on all ongoing proceedings in the Gyanvapi mosque case, currently before the district judge in the Varanasi court.
In a significant development, the Supreme Court has issued a stay on the High Court's order, preventing the scientific examination of a 'Shivling' located within the Kashi Vishwanath corridor at the Gyanvapi mosque. The apex court has specifically directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to refrain from conducting carbon dating on the Shivling.
