What's Next In The Marvel Movies? The Marvels, Deadpool 3, And More
The Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts an impressive lineup of forthcoming films as it enters Phases 5 and 6, ready to elevate the multiverse saga to new heights. While Marvel Studios prepares for the release of " The Marvels ," Sony Pictures Entertainment is venturing further into the realm of Spider-Man characters with " Kraven The Hunter ." These are just two of the highly anticipated projects in an ambitious slate (without even delving into the numerous promised TV shows). If you're struggling to keep track, you're in the right place.
Here's a list of all the upcoming Marvel films at various stages of development:
Kraven the Hunter
Following "Venom" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," a fresh Spidey villain is set to star in his own live-action film. "Kraven the Hunter" is the first movie dedicated to the fan-favorite character and member of the Sinister Six. The film will follow Aron Taylor-Johnson, who will portray Sergei Kravinoff, a Russian immigrant renowned for his hunting skills. In addition to exploring the villain's origin story, it will also delve into the backstory of The Rhino. The cast includes Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, and Arianna DeBose, among others. The R-rated film is expected to hit screens on October 6.
The Marvels
Captain Marvel is set to make her return to the MCU with "The Marvels." The film will see Brie Larson's Carol Danvers team up with Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris's Monica Rambeau. Set in the present day of the MCU, the movie will follow this all-female trio on an adventure spanning Earth and space. It ties into "WandaVision," the series that introduced Parris, and "Ms. Marvel," which introduced Vellani to the film franchise. We also know that Park Seo-joon is starring in the film. The trailer briefly teased the Korean star in a dance sequence. "The Marvels" will grace cinemas on November 10, 2023.
Deadpool 3
The long-awaited "Deadpool 3" will not only feature the return of Ryan Reynolds as the "merc with a mouth" but will also see him team up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The film's teaser nearly broke the internet when the stars united to announce it. More recently, images from the film's set showed Jackman in Wolverine's classic yellow suit, hinting at a comic-accurate portrayal of the character. Fans have eagerly awaited the actor's return to the MCU. While much remains unknown about the film, one thing is clear: anything is possible.
Captain America: Brave New World
After "Avengers: Endgame," the mantle of Captain America passed to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon. The film will be set in the post-blip world and continue the story after the events of the Marvel series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," which saw Wilson and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, embarking on an adventure together. The film will further explore the new Cap's journey and features Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross. "Brave New World" is set to release on July 26, 2024.
Thunderbolts
A villain team-up is always a crowd-pleaser, and that's precisely what "Thunderbolts" promises. The film will feature a crossover of several MCU antagonists, though casting has not been officially confirmed. The characters will include Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov, and John Walker, aka US Agent. Hints of this group coming together have been scattered throughout the MCU, with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine recruiting the villains.
Blade
Back in 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Mahershali Ali would star as the vampire hunter in the MCU's "Blade." However, the film's production has faced numerous delays, including rewrites. Slated for release on February 14, 2025, the film is highly anticipated by fans who have longed for a Blade film since the franchise ended in 2004. The character had a voice cameo in "Eternals."
Fantastic Four
"Fantastic Four" is perhaps the most requested film by Marvel fans. Past attempts to make the movie have faltered, but it now appears that the film will arrive in Phase 6. Expectations are at an all-time high following John Krasinski's astonishing cameo as Reed Richards in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," led by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. However, he was a variant who met a swift demise. It remains to be seen what Marvel will do with the property. The film is scheduled for release on May 2, 2025.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
The next Avengers film in Phase 6 will be "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty," set to release on May 1, 2026. Little is known about the film, but we do know that Jonathan Majors will portray Kang the Conqueror. The character played a significant role in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which delved deeper into the multiverse. Prior to that, we'll also see Majors in the upcoming "Loki" Season 2.
Avengers: Secret Wars
Among the many delayed MCU projects is "Avengers: Secret Wars." The film is another crossover endeavour that could have major implications for the MCU as we know it. With numerous cameo possibilities, nothing is off the table for this film if it comes to fruition. For now, the release date is set for May 7, 2027.
Madame Web
Sony's Spider-Man universe is preparing for its first female-led origin film titled "Madame Web." The film will reportedly feature Dakota Johnson as the titular character, Cassandra Webb, a visually impaired clairvoyant and ally of Spider-Man. The recently announced cast also includes "Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, and others. The film is expected to release on February 16, 2024.
The list continues with several unannounced films, including "Armor Wars," "Spider-Man 4," "Shang-Chi 2," "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," "Spider-Women," and more.
