Bruce Lee's Anime 'House Of Lee' To Release In 2024
A groundbreaking revelation emerged on Friday, August 11, 2023, as it was officially disclosed that Bruce Lee , the iconic martial artist and actor of legendary status, is slated to be commemorated through an upcoming anime series scheduled for release in 2024. The highly anticipated series purportedly aims to unveil its inaugural trailer in conjunction with the impending 50th anniversary celebration and the grandiose 4K re-release of the seminal film "Enter the Dragon." This cinematic masterpiece is poised to grace theatres on the auspicious dates of August 13 and 16.
Rumours have circulated that the Bruce Lee Entertainment company has been contemplating an anime series focusing on the iconic figure for quite some time. In a significant development, they have now joined forces with the renowned animation studio Shibuya to bring this project to fruition. Adding to the intrigue, Emily Yang, co-founder of Shibuya, is also linked to the venture, although the precise nature of her involvement remains shrouded in mystery as of now.
Reportedly titled " House of Lee ," the series purportedly traces the journey of Bruce Lee as he gathers a cadre of "Dragon Warriors" with the mission of averting the world's descent into "obscurity and obscurantism." Sources suggest that the show draws inspiration from Lee's renowned quote:
"Those who are unaware they are walking in darkness will never seek the light."
The Bruce Lee anime appears to adopt a structure reminiscent of battle shonen series.
Shannon Lee, the daughter of the late Bruce Lee, plays a significant role in the project and has expressed her support for Emily Yang and the Shibuya team as a whole. It was after viewing Shibuya's White Rabbit anime short, recommended by Lee Entertainment partner Dennis Chang, that Shannon decided to collaborate with Shibuya.
A brief teaser trailer for the anime series has made its debut on Shibuya's official Twitter account. Regrettably, the teaser did not provide any further insights into the series in any aspect. Nevertheless, enthusiasts can anticipate the release of more details in the forthcoming days, as the inaugural full-length trailer is scheduled to make its appearance next week, coinciding with the 4K remastered re-release of the film "Enter the Dragon."
In addition to "House of the Dragon," the esteemed Bruce Lee is celebrated for his roles in several other timeless films. "The Big Boss," "Way of the Dragon," "Fist of Fury," and "The Game of Death" are acknowledged as his five most iconic works, all falling under the category of "feature-length Hong Kong martial arts films." Notably, Lee's contributions extend to the American television series "The Green Hornet."
Undoubtedly, "House of Lee'' stands as Shibuya's most prominent production to date and seemingly marks their inaugural venture into a comprehensive anime series. Among the significant endeavours from the production company are "Dominion X," a collaboration between Steve Aoki and Seth Green, alongside the White Rabbit miniseries by pplpleasr and Maciej Kuciara.
On the studio's website, Yang and Kuciara are acknowledged as co-founders, sharing this distinction with Giff Huang and Jacky Wang. The roles of Head of Finance, Head of Growth, and Engineering are attributed to Mike Liu, Eva Casanova, and Lilli Choung, respectively.
