Veteran Actress Smriti Biswas Passes Away At The Age Of 100, Filmmaker Hansal Mehta Offers Condolences

Veteran actor Smriti Biswas passed away on July 3 at the age of 100. Known for her roles in Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi films, she died at her home in Nashik due to age-related illness.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing photos of Smriti Biswas and expressing his gratitude. He wrote, “Go away in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives.”




Social media is flooded with condolence posts for Smriti Biswas, with many sharing pictures of her from various films. She appeared in movies like 'Nek Dil,' 'Aparajita,' 'Hamsafar,' 'Hamdard,' 'Chitgaon,' and 'Baap Re Baap,' among others.

Smriti Biswas began her career as a child artiste and appeared in several films directed by legends such as Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. Over her 30-year career, she shared the screen with notable actors like Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni.

She debuted in the 1930 Bengali film 'Sandhya' and made her last appearance in the 1960 movie 'Model Girl.' After marrying filmmaker SD Narang, she retired from acting and moved to Nashik following his death in 1986. She is survived by her sons, Satyajeet and Rajeev.

Smriti Biswas celebrated her 100th birthday on February 17, 2024.
