Gillian Anderson stuns fans as she shares snap from Netflix's Scoop set and lets slip show secret
Scoop star Gillian Anderson has taken to social media to reveal unseen behind the scenes pictures of the hit Netflix drama - and also informed fans the shots of her at Buckingham Palace were generated by green screen.
She also said that she had never ran in London's Hyde Park before filming the show. The star, 55, who is famed for her role in X-Files playing FBI Agent Dana Scully, took to Instagram to share six pictures of what it was like filming the drama that played out the infamous interview with Prince Andrew.
The story behind the show is in regards to Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis' 2019 interview with Prince Andrew over his involvement with the late and disgraced socialite and businessman Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged sexual assault with Virginia Giuffre. In the drama series, Gillian Anderson takes on a stark portrayal of Emily who is known for her straight-forward interview technique.
And for the first time, fans were given a glimpse into how the show was made. In one picture, Gillian is sat opposite a green screen, which viewers were led to believe was outside Buckingham Palace. She then captioned the post to direct fans to the third slide where she wrote: "Slide 3: the only time I’ve ever run in Hyde Park.#Scoop #behindthescenes."
And many of her followers were quick to comment. One person wrote: "Omg same but I couldn’t even tell." And another said: "right?! That was some great CGI!" A third added: "IT WAS GREEN SCREEN?? i feel betrayed." However, some viewers claimed they knew a green screen was being used. One person wrote: "They would not let they Record a movie like Scoop inside the Gates. Só i knew it was green screen."
And another said: "You think they let them use the palace for real?" Speaking about taking on the role as the hard-hitting journalist Emily, she explained to Today.com: "I don’t think that my brain really works best in high stress circumstances, so I have a huge amount of respect for journalists."
She added: "I like having lines and having an opportunity to work on those lines over and over again. I think journalists need to stay a lot more spontaneous and can roll with the punches in a way I’m not sure that I can." And it seems, initially the former X-Files star didn't want to take on the role as she felt intimidated by portraying such a well-known UK TV journalist.
She continued: "The idea of playing somebody that was so familiar and so alive felt incredibly daunting. I’d literally come in from the country being in the mud with my kids for a week and didn’t prepare at all, didn’t have makeup with me, and then showed up. And (Maitlis) is glam."
