National Film Award-winning Films for Kids: 'Dhanak' to 'Budhia Singh'

Hero Image
The film industry would be challenging to envision without the presence of skilled child actors.

Children in movies can contribute valuable emotional depth, while at other times, they serve as sources of comic relief and bring out the vulnerability of adult characters.

As India marks Children's Day today, here are some film recommendations that have won the National Film Award.

'Dhanak'
Nagesh Kukunoor's "Dhanak" offers a glimpse into the pure and unblemished love that thrives between siblings during their early years, untainted by the pressures of competition.

Pari, who looks after her visually impaired brother Chotu, is resolute in her quest to restore his eyesight. The only source of disagreement between them revolves around the debate on whether SRK or Salman Khan is the superior actor.

'Budhia Singh - Born to Run'
The cast of "Budhia Singh - Born to Run" includes Manoj Bajpayee, Mayur Mahendra Patole, Tillotama Shome, and Gajraj Rao.

The IMDb synopsis reads, "A biopic about Budhia Singh, the world's youngest marathon runner whose story garnered controversy and inspiration around the world."

Soumendra Padhi directed it and Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Code Red Films produced it.

'Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai'
Before gaining nationwide acclaim with "Kantara" in 2022, Rishab Shetty had already directed "Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai."

Shetty's third directorial venture featured a cast led by Anant Nag, Ranjan, Sampath, Pramod Shetty, Mahendra, Sohan Shetty, and Prakash Thuminad.

Shetty not only penned the narrative and screenplay but also served as the producer for this Kannada socio-political drama-comedy film.

' My Dear Kuttichathan'/'Chhota Chetan'
The film "My Dear Kuttichathan," available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, holds the distinction of not only being a beloved fan favorite but also India's pioneering 3D cinematic venture.

Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair, Sonia, and Dalip Tahil were part of the cast in the original Malayalam version.

The story centers on a malevolent sorcerer and three children.

'Manu Uncle'
IMDb describes Manu Uncle as "A group of children and their uncle Manu starts a mission to catch the robbers in the museum."

Starring a lineup of renowned Malayalam actors including Mammootty, MG Soman, Prathapachandran, and featuring a special appearance by Mohanlal, with a cameo by Suresh Gopi, "Manu Uncle" has secured its place as a cult classic in Malayalam cinema.
