Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s Shout-Out to Jack Harlow Steals the Spotlight in Victory Speech
On Tuesday night, November 7th, Jack Harlow , known for his hit "Churchill Downs," received an unexpected shout-out from a surprising collaborator, despite already amassing a considerable following in his career. “Tonight Kentucky made a choice. A choice not to move to the right or to the left, but a choice to move forward for every single family,” said Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear in his victory speech after securing a second term.
“A choice to reject Team R or Team D, and to state clearly that we are one Team Kentucky. A choice of Jack Harlow over Sarah Huckabee Sanders.” The reference to Harlow, who hails from Louisville, appearing on stage alongside Governor Beshear last week to support the popular Democratic incumbent in a predominantly conservative state, is contrasted with former Trump White House press secretary and current Governor of Arkansas, Sarah Sanders, who shared the stage with the unsuccessful candidate of the night, Daniel Cameron, who had been endorsed by Trump, during the same time Harlow was endorsing Beshear.
Governor Beshear, known for his charisma and widespread popularity, visited the University of Louisville campus last Thursday with Grammy-nominated rapper Harlow, joking, “You draw a bigger crowd than I do,” the Courier-Journal reported. After brief remarks about his economic record and a ticket that “strongly supports higher education,” Beshear handed the mic to Harlow.
“He was telling me he loved what I was doing, and for the last year and a half we’ve been staying in touch,” Harlow told the students about how he was introduced to Beshear in 2022 on a phone call while shooting a movie in Los Angeles. “This is a hell of a stand-up guy right here, and I think you all are holding the right signs.”
Tuesday's off-year election delivered another clear message of disapproval for the Supreme Court's significant anti-abortion ruling. In a neighboring state, Ohio joined the growing list of states by overwhelmingly endorsing a measure that champions abortion rights. This measure enshrines abortion access in the state's constitution, ensuring it is available up to the point of viability, typically around 24 weeks. Additionally, Ohio became the 24th state to legalize recreational marijuana.
