In a disappointing turn of events for fans eagerly anticipating the anime adaptation of Rihito Takarai's popular boys-love manga, 'Ten Count,' the official website announced the cancellation of the project. Originally slated for a 2020 television premiere, the anime had encountered delays as the staff reconsidered the series' development approach. Despite efforts to revive the project by transforming it into a theatrical anime set to debut in 2023, it seems that unforeseen production issues have led to its ultimate cancellation.

Directed and scripted by So Toyama, renowned for his work on Pokémon movies, the anime had Tomomi Shimazaki handling character design. East Fish Studio and Synergy SP collaborated on the production, with distribution managed by Pony Canyon.

The narrative of 'Ten Count' revolves around Shirotani Tadaomi, a company president's secretary, and Riku Kurose, a counsellor who diagnoses Shirotani with mysophobia during an encounter. The storyline unfolds as Shirotani grapples with his condition through counselling sessions with Kurose.

Takarai initiated the manga's serialisation in Shinshokan's Dear+ magazine in July 2013, concluding the series in November 2017. Viz Media's SuBLime boys-love imprint released the final volume in December 2018. Notably, 'Ten Count' earned top rankings in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Boys-Love Comics for 2014 and 2015.

The cancellation of the anime marks a disappointing turn for fans who had been eagerly anticipating the visual adaptation of Takarai's work. The reasons behind the production challenges remain undisclosed, leaving followers of the series with lingering questions about the fate of the animated version.
