Delhi dogs receive QR-Based 'Aadhaar Cards': Here's what you need to know

In a groundbreaking move on April 27, 2024, 100 dogs in Delhi received their QR-based 'Aadhaar cards' at key locations such as Delhi T1 Airport, India Gate, and the esteemed NGO Pawfriend .in. Led by Priya Chopra, the Delhi chapter head of Pawfriend.in, this initiative aimed to enhance the safety and protection of our beloved canine companions.



QR-based dog Aadhaar cards significance

The drive commenced with the early morning tagging of dogs in and around Manavi Rai's shelter, a critical step to prevent them from becoming lost. Reflecting on the importance of this initiative, animal rights activist Manavi Rai expressed her elation, stating, "Today, I'm thrilled that these QR-based tags will serve as a lifeline for our furry friends, particularly in times of need."

QR-based dog Aadhaar cards: Ensuring safety during major events

Acknowledging the susceptibility of stray dogs, particularly during significant events, 15 dogs were equipped with tags at the T1 Airport, and 25 were tagged at India Gate. These QR-based 'Aadhaar cards' contain crucial information, including feeder details and emergency contacts, facilitating authorities in reuniting lost dogs with their caregivers.

Akshay Ridlan, the founder of Pawfriend.in, emphasised the organisation's dedication to broadening its impact, indicating, "We have already distributed around 6350 tags nationwide and plan to increase this distribution tenfold within the year."
