NEW DELHI: India and New Zealand will clash in the second Test of their series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, starting October 24, 2024. Following a disappointing loss in Bengaluru, India aim to bounce back with key players returning to the squad.

Conditions were a major talking point during the first Test, where India’s captain Rohit Sharma misjudged the pitch, allowing New Zealand to capitalize effectively.

As the teams head to Pune, the pitch is expected to be drier, which could influence the game significantly. New Zealand are seeking to make history, having won the first Test, and the challenge lies in adapting to different conditions.

In the first Test, New Zealand secured a historic victory over India in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, marking their first Test win in India since 1988 and just their third in 37 matches on Indian soil.

Rachin Ravindra, whose parents are from Bengaluru, played a pivotal role by scoring a brilliant 134 in New Zealand's first innings. The match was significantly influenced by inclement weather, which saw all three sessions washed out on Day 1.

Despite India captain Rohit Sharma winning the toss and choosing to bat on Day 2, the decision backfired spectacularly as the hosts were dismissed for just 46 runs, their third-lowest total in Test history.

New Zealand capitalized on the favourable conditions, posting 402 runs in their first innings and taking a substantial lead of 356 runs.

Although India made a commendable effort to chase down the target, led by Sarfaraz Khan's 150 and Rishabh Pant's 99, they were ultimately bowled out for 462 in their second innings.

Ravindra's unbeaten 39 helped New Zealand chase down a target of 107 runs before lunch on Day 5, marking a rare home defeat for India.
