Police rescue boy, auto driver kidnapped by gang in Madurai

Madurai: A 12-year-old boy and an autorickshaw driver who were kidnapped by a gang for 2 crore ransom on Thursday, were rescued by the SS Colony police within three hours of the incident. However, the gang escaped after learning that they were being hunted down.

The boy studying Class 7 used to commute to school in an autorickshaw hired by the family. After he left for school on Thursday morning, a gang intercepted the auto and kidnapped the boy and the driver Palpandi at knifepoint.

The gang contacted the boy’s mother Mythili Rajalakshmi demanding 2 crore ransom warning her that they would murder the boy if she approached the police. But the mother decided to inform SS Colony police who formed a special team to trace the gang.

The team managed to trace the gang’s location. But the gang sensing that they were being rounded up, fled leaving the boy and the driver at the national highway near Nagamalai Pudukottai.

The boy and the driver were rescued by the police. The team has launched a search for the gang.TNN
