Kuki students' body objects to Manipur CM's remarks about nabbed KNA-B militant

GUWAHATI: Objecting to the statement of Biren Singh on the apprehension of a suspected Kuki National Army (Burma) cadre by Assam Rifles near the India-Myanmar border, the Kuki Students’ Organisation on Monday claimed he is a Myanmar refugee and not an insurgent.

The Manipur CM said, “As a CM, I have been saying that outsiders are involved in the present crisis in Manipur. Appreciate the activities of AR, which arrested a Myanmarese who is a cadre of KNA (B).”

The KSO said the CM “should not be too hasty in jumping to conclusions based on rudimentary investigations and information, especially regarding the arrest of an alleged member of KNA-B, Thangliankap of Kolang, Khampat, Myanmar. Such actions should only be taken with substantial evidence, unless they are done deliberately.”

KSO stated that Thangliankap did not illegally enter Manipur. “Instead, he followed due process by registering with the authorities concerned at the border, just like others who have sought refuge in the state due to the current political unrest in Myanmar.”

“The Kuki Students’ Organisation General HQ believes in the Indian judiciary and its rule of law. We urge the GoI to thoroughly investigate the arrest of the Myanmar national refugee, which the Manipur govt claims is a member of the pro-democracy outfit KNA-B,” it said.
