BHUBANESWAR: State govt has decided to install statues of 21 eminent personalities and unsung heroes in different parts of Odisha this year.

They include a 150-ft-high statue of tribal leader Birsa Munda, which will be the centrepiece of a proposed mega memorial park in Sundargarh district. The park will also feature an interpretation centre showcasing Birsa Munda’s life history and the contributions of other tribal freedom fighters. Among the other personalities whose statues will be built are VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and tribal leaders Tama Dora and Ratna Nayak.

The foundation stone for the Birsa Munda Memorial will be laid on Nov 15, marking his 150th birth anniversary, and the park is set to be unveiled a year later on Nov 15, 2025.

PM Modi to lay foundation stone
