Govt to buy 1cr MT ofpaddy at MSP of ₹3.1k

Bhubaneswar: The state govt has set a target of procuring one crore metric tonnes (MT) of paddy this year at a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 3,100.

Paddy collection vehicles will be tracked via GPS using the E-Vahan app, aiming to reduce the role of intermediaries and agents. To check paddy quality during procurement, an automatic grain analyser will be employed.

These decisions were made at a review meeting on kharif paddy procurement and the implementation of the increased MSP, chaired by chief minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday. Majhi called for streamlining the paddy procurement process at mandis (markets) and stressed the need to make necessary arrangements for farmers’ convenience.

The state is currently producing 68 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
