New Delhi: The Congress hit back at former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh saying that god punished him. This came as a response to the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief's remarks for Vinesh Phogat. Brij Bhushan accused Vinesh Phogat of "cheating" and said that god has punished her for the same referring to her Olympic disqualification. On this Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said that Singh is the one who has been punished and Vinesh will be soon elected as an MLA. "God punished Brij Bhushan, he is not in the Parliament and Vinesh Phogat is about to win and become an MLA, "Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said. "He is attacking Vinesh Phogat but 6 other girls also accused him of sexual harassment... The allegations by 6 other girls still remain to this day, you are still chargesheeted and someone in public life should not say such things," she added.
Brij Bhushan's 'Cheating' Dig At Vinesh Phogat After Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress party, Brij Bhushan said that the two wrestlers joining the Congress ahead of Haryana assembly polls proved that the entire wrestlers' movement was a "conspiracy" against him and the Congress party was behind it. He had accused Phogat of getting into Paris Olympics via resorting to deceit. "Is it not true that Bajrang went to the Asian Games without trials? I want to ask those who are experts in wrestling. I want to ask Vinesh Phogat whether a player can give trials in 2 weight categories in a day? Can the trials be stopped for 5 hours after the weigh-in?... You did not win the wrestling, you went there by cheating. God has punished you for the same," said Brij Bhushan. "On 18th January 2023, when the protest started at Jantar Mantar, I said that this is not a movement of sportspersons, Congress is behind it. Especially Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka ji, and Rahul ji. This is a movement of Congress. And today this thing has been proved. In this entire movement, the conspiracy that happened against us, Congress was involved in it and Bhupinder Hooda was leading it," Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said."The entire script was written, this is not an agitation by sportspersons. And now after about two years, it has become clear that the Congress was involved in this drama," he added. Phogat To Contest Haryana Assembly PollsPunia is a Tokyo Games bronze medallist, while Phogat became the first woman wrestler to reach the Olympics final in Paris, the stage where she was disqualified after being found overweight by about 100 gm in her 50-kg category weigh-in. Both of them joined the Congress party on Friday after resigning from their respective positions in Indian Railways.Within hours of joining the party, Vinesh Phogat was fielded from Julana seat for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, while Bajrang Punia was appointed working president of All India Kisan Congress.This comes after a closed-door meeting between Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Punia and Phogat were part of the protest over sexual harassment allegations against then WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in 2023.
