2 Lifeguards Arrested After Minor Drowns In High Rise Society's Swimming Pool In Gurugram

Gurugram: Two lifeguards were nabbed for negligence after a five-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a four-foot-deep swimming pool at a group housing society's clubhouse. The police reported the incident on Friday. On Wednesday, the minor went swimming at the clubhouse in BPTP Park Serene Society in Sector 37-D along with his grandmother.As his grandmother left him unattended for some time, the minor, who was swimming in the children's pool, moved to the adult pool. The police said that he was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival, according to a PTI report.According to the information provided by Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, the accused lifeguards have been identified as Durg, 30 years old, and Aakash, 21 years old, and due to their negligence, the child drowned. Yadav said that Durg, who is a native of Madhya Pradesh, had joined the job 10 days ago, while Aakash, who hails from Bihar, had joined two days ago.He added that an FIR has been filed against the lifeguards and other management authorities under section 106 for causing death by negligence of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sector 10A police station. Later, the accused lifeguards were released on bail after they agreed to cooperate in the investigation.Adding to the details, Sandeep Kumar, Sector 10A SHO, said that CCTV footage is also being reviewed. Meanwhile, the residents of the society protested on the premises against the private firm responsible for the housing society's security and pool safety. The residents have alleged that the lifeguards were not adequately trained, yet the private firm was charging exorbitant maintenance fees, the PTI report added.
