West Ham pick manager to replace Graham Potter after David Sullivan pulls trigger
Graham Potter has been given his marching orders by West Ham United just days before their Premier League showdown with Everton. Former Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is poised to take the reins before Monday's crucial encounter. The Hammers find themselves languishing in 19th place after managing just three points from a potential 15, and they are believed to have struck a deal for the ex-Tottenham and Wolves chief to succeed Potter without delay.
Potter struggled to make his mark at the London Stadium, with this campaign piling the pressure on his shoulders. Defeats against Sunderland, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace have sparked widespread demands for his dismissal. Nuno is set to replace him after Slaven Bilic had been touted for a comeback to the club.
A club statement read: "West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Graham Potter has left the Club.
"Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team's position in the Premier League as soon as possible.
"The Club can confirm that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have also left with immediate effect.
"The Board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future. The process of appointing a replacement is underway. The Club will be making no further comment at this time."
Nuno and Bilic have both held discussions with the club's hierarchy regarding taking charge. Potter had faced mounting pressure following the 3-0 opening day loss to Sunderland, with supporters directing chants of "you don't know what you're doing" at him during recent matches.
"I understand we're in a tough situation," he admitted following the Palace defeat. "We want to do better than we are and at the moment we're not."
