China-owned e-commerce AliExpress has crossed all limits. The company is selling doormats with the image of Lord Jagannath on its platform, a direct attack on Hinduism and the faith of crores of devotees. The blatant disrespect of Lord Jagannath on AliExpress has caused deep resentment among people across India, especially Odisha. The hashtag #BoycottAliExpress is trending on social media.
This shocking incident came to light when people found Lord Jagannath's face printed on a doormat on a Chinese e-commerce website, which is used to wipe feet. What added fuel to the fire was the advertisement of the product which showed a person keeping his feet on the mat.
E-commerce AliExpress has described the doormat as 'moisture absorbent' and 'anti-slip' in its description, which further increased the anger of the devotees. People are calling it a clear example of religious insensitivity.
According to the report of Sambad English, Madhav Pujapanda, a former member of the Sri Jagannath Temple Management Committee, termed AliExpress's action as shameful and said that it is a direct attack on our faith. He asked the temple administration to immediately inform the Odisha and Central governments, so that the sale of such insulting things can be stopped immediately.
