Small Village Daughter Leads Indian Handball Team

Ganganagar: Shivpur Fatuhi, a small village on the India-Pakistan border, has made its mark in the world of handball. Tina Chahar, the daughter of a farmer from this village, has been selected as the captain of the Indian Women's Handball Team.

Tina's journey to the top was not an easy one. Her uncle, Rajendra Chahar, played a crucial role in nurturing her talent. He is the coach of a private school in the village and also runs a handball academy. It was he who encouraged Tina to pursue her passion for handball at the international level.

Tina is currently undergoing training at the Women's Handball Academy in Jaipur under the guidance of coach Manisha Rathore and international handball coach Priyadeep Singh. She will lead the Indian team in the 10th IHF Women's Youth (Under-18) World Championship to be held in Chuzhou, China, from August 14 to 25.

Champion from Village

Tina's mother, Bhagwati, is a homemaker, and her father, Ramkumar Chahar, is a farmer. Despite their humble background, Tina has made her family and village proud with her achievements in handball. Her uncle, Rajendra, believes that Tina's success will change the identity of Shivpur Fatuhi, which was earlier known only for the Shivpur Head and the Maharaja Ganga Singh Memorial.

Tina, who stands 163 cm tall and weighs 59 kg, has been playing handball since her school days. She has participated in several national and international tournaments, including the 36th Sub-Junior National Handball Championship, the 37th Sub-Junior National Handball Championship, and the 44th Junior Girls National Handball Championship, where she won bronze medals. She also participated in the 46th Junior Girls National Handball Championship, Khelo India Youth Games 2021, and the 52nd Senior Women's National Handball Championship, where she won silver medals.

A Proud Moment for Village

Tina's achievement is not only a proud moment for her family but also for the entire village. Her success has inspired many young girls in the village to take up handball as a career. The villagers are now looking forward to seeing Tina bring glory to the country and make Shivpur Fatuhi a hub for handball in the region.
