The Strongest Sin Archbishops From The Witch Cult In Re:Zero Ranked!

Hero Image

In Re:Zero, we’ve encountered five Sin Archbishops so far: Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti in Season 1, followed by four more in Season 3.

Since Re:Zero combines shounen elements with fantasy, power scaling naturally becomes part of the conversation. With multiple Sin Archbishops introduced, the question arises—who is the strongest among them?

Before we get into the discussion, I would like to note some points. The authorities that the Sin Archbishops possess are all out of this world. Meaning, they are twisted and logically trying to compare them with one another can prove to be quite difficult.

Interestingly, all these authorities, though broken, seem to have a weakness. While Subaru is instrumental in bringing some of them down, characters like Liliana too have acted as a foil to their powers.

So keeping these points in mind let’s take a look at the strongest sin archbishops in Re:Zero. Just a reminder that is designated as a witch and not an archbishop, so I won’t be including her in this list.

1. Regulus Corneas – Sin Archbishop of Greed

Tappei Nagatsuki, the author of Re:Zero, confirmed that Regulus is the strongest among the Sin Archbishops. There is huge gulf between him and the others, meaning he can wipe the floor with others if he wants.

His Authority of Greed grants him nearly impenetrable defenses, making him invulnerable unless his specific weakness is discovered. And this defense doesn’t just apply to physical attacks, but even magic and other phenomena. Subaru literally calls him a distortion in space-time.

Regulus’s attacks are equally devastating, as shown when he clashes with Reinhard, highlighting the overwhelming offensive and defensive potential of his authority.

The only character who is capable of defeating Regulus without figuring out his secret is probably Satella, but that fight could also easily end up being a stalemate.

As I mentioned before, Subaru was the main reason why Regulus’ weakness even came to the fore. But, he does a good job of making sure that the secrets about his Authority are not revealed. So yeah, we have the strongest Sin Archbishop in Regulus Corneas without any doubt.

2. Sin Archbishops of Gluttony – Roy Alphard, Lye Batenkaitos, and their Sister

Lye Batenkaitos, Gluttony

It might seem like I am hyping up the Gluttony siblings a lot by placing them in the second position, but I feel this is as good a place to rank them.

To be honest, they are known to have the best combat abilities among the archbishops, thanks to the experiences they gained from all the memories they have consumed.

Their combat abilities, enhanced by stolen experiences, are evident in Roy’s fight against Julius and Ricardo, two of the most seasoned fighters in the series.

Dorkell’s leaper ability, which they were able to use, alone made them a nuisance in arc 6, and they put Subaru and the others in a tight spot multiple times.

On top of that the Solar Eclipse ability of their authority unlocked their true power potential, which makes it hard not to rank them second. The fact that Lye was able to go toe to toe with a horned Ram only proves how strong they are.

Their Authority of greed isn’t a direct combat elevating authority, but it does give them a considerably advantage during fights. Being able to devour names, and even memories, not just gives you an advantage over your opponent, but it also makes you very feared.

3. Sirius Romanee-Conti – Sin Archbishop of Wrath

It was quite hard to decide to who to place here because Sin Archbishop of Lust too was a strong contender. However, I ultimately chose Sirius because of .

It is not only dangerous but nearly impossible to counter. Her ability amplifies and spreads emotions like rage and despair, making her a nightmare to fight, especially if innocent bystanders are caught under her influence.

Dealing with her requires someone like Liliana, who can neutralize emotional chaos, or sacrificing innocents trapped by her authority.

Adding to her lethality are her fire magic and razor-sharp golden chains, which she controls with superhuman precision.

She is also said to be the most physically strong among the Sin Archbishops, which only makes her even more formidable.

Sirius is sometimes not given due credit for how strong she really is. With an ability which can cause a whole city to go haywire, and combat abilities which let her go toe to toe with someone as skilled as Priscilla, it is only natural that she ranks third in this list!

4. Capella Emerada Lugunica – Sin Archbishop of Lust

Up next, ranking 4th is the utterly disgusting Capella. Many argue that Capella’s ability is broken. While that is true, I feel that in terms of combat ability, it doesn’t match up to the others.

Her powers combined with her vile personality make her an utterly powerful opponent to come up against.

Capella’s Authority of Lust grants her practical immortality (thanks to the insane regeneration), and it also lets her to transform herself and others into abominations or dangerous monsters. This makes her unpredictable and nearly unstoppable.

Well, Capella is hard to kill, however, it won’t be hard to maybe restrain or just seal her?

Capella’s offensive abilities shouldn’t be entirely written off either, as they are particularly destructive too. Imagine her unleashing a horde of mindless dragons on a city.

But then, it won’t really match the offensive powers of Gluttony or even Sirius, and so she kinda ranks below them.

Her poisonous blood, ties to the Lugunica royal family, and potential connection to the dragon suggest that her full power is yet to be revealed, so there is still a possibility that her position might change in the future.

5. Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti – Sin Archbishop of Sloth

Finally we come to Petelgeuse. Huge disservice imo. Technically speaking, his authority has to be the strongest after Regulus’, because without Subaru, it would be impossible to detect his attacks, making him an extremely inconvenient opponent to come up against.

Not only that, due to being a spirit, Petelgeuse can swap and switch bodies as needed, but once again, he was only foiled because of Subaru being special.

Despite all that, he ranks lowest among the Archbishops due to his incompatibility with the Sloth Witch Factor.

His erratic nature, combined with the fact that his power is rendered ineffective against Subaru’s Return by Death, ultimately makes him the weakest in this list.
