Mikio Ikemoto Cites Matrix Trilogy As Source Of Inspiration For Boruto Manga

During a recent press conference in Paris, Boruto manga artist Mikio Ikemoto revealed that the Matrix films inspired his approach to the drawing and the composition of the manga.

As for cinema, I was influenced by the Matrix trilogy, especially in my way of drawing and in my compositions.

He went on to elaborate how the character arc of Neo in The Matrix parallels Boruto

‘s own evolution throughout the series. He noted that both characters experience similar transformations in their abilities and responsibilities.

In the first part, Neo appears as the savior while in the second, he manages to control his power. It is similar to what distinguishes the childhood part from the young adult part of Boruto.

While the Matrix trilogy served as a cinematic inspiration, Ikemoto acknowledged that his primary manga influence remains Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball

.

Fans quickly responded to the revelations, with many drawing side-by-side comparisons between Boruto and The Matrix, particularly drawing parallels between Sarada and Trinity.

This was revealed during Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto’s visit to France to promote Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

During the same press conference, Masashi Kishimoto, known for creating Naruto

and supervising its sequel Boruto, had hinted at the possibility of launching a new manga.
