  • Analysis of the 2025 list revealed several trends. Half of the selected titles originated from shounen or seinen magazines, yet one in four of these received more votes from female readers.

Twenty-five percent of the chosen manga came from web-based platforms like Shonen Jump+ and Manga Up. Over half of the “Should Be Anime” selections were shounen titles.

The “Unique Art/Story” category saw a majority of votes from female users. Breakout titles included the girls love manga The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All, which garnered nominations nearly equal to all combined girls love titles from the previous year, and the action manga Kagurabachi

, which received double the nominations of any other action title.

As part of the campaign, MyAnimeList users who read two volumes from any title on the 2025 list can earn a time-limited profile badge. Thealso includes additional recommendation sections created with manga publishers and booksellers.

The project seeks to identify exceptional manga recently published internationally and connect creators, publishers, and readers across more than 240 countries and territories, according to the announcement.

Titles eligible for nomination required an overseas release in 2024 and needed both a Score and Popularity ranking below #50 on the MyAnimeList platform. Fans submitted nominations for up to 10 titles, providing reasoning for each choice.
