Kowloon Generic Romance Gets Anime & Live-Action Adaptations For 2025 Release

Jun Mayuzuki’s Kowloon Generic Romance manga is getting an anime and live action adaptation, both of which will release in 2025.

The announced was accompanied by a combined teaser trailer, new key visuals and cast details.

In the anime adaptation, Haruka Shiraishi will voice Reiko Kujirai and Tomokazu Sugita will voice Hajime Kudo.

Meanwhile, the live-action film will feature Riho Yoshioka and Koshi Mizukami in the same roles.

Author Mayuzuki expressed her happiness at the double adaptation of her work, noting that she was happy with the people working on the adaptations and that she was moved when she visited the sets of the works.

“Congratulations on the double media adaptation into both anime and live-action! I feel incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful people involved in both projects. I’m delighted that many of the cast and staff were already fans of the original work, and it feels like I’ve truly been lucky in drawing such talent to the project. I’m deeply grateful. I had the opportunity to visit both sets, and there were so many moments that moved me. I can’t wait for the day when this passion reaches everyone. Please look forward to it!

Mayuzuki is also known for her previous work, After the Rain.

Kowloon Generic Romance first debuted in Weekly Young Jump in 2019. As of October 2023, 9 volumes of the manga have been published, with the 10th one bound to release this month.

MAL describes the plot of the manga as follows:

In the distant future, individuals who adore the old way of life live in Kowloon Walled City—a slum city that serves as a refuge for those who long for the Hong Kong of the past. Realtor Reiko Kujirai, however, craves for the new and exciting places in the area. In contrast, her only coworker, Hajime Kudou, enjoys the nostalgia the city invokes and is put off by anything modern that seeps past its walls. But despite their differing views and constant bickering on the most mundane of things, the two often find themselves enjoying each other’s company.
