Watch: Two-hour rain submerges Merc, BMW among other cars in Gurgaon, video goes viral

Despite being a major corporate hub hosting several MNCs, Gurgaon has long faced criticism for its inadequate infrastructure , which leads to waterlogging even after light rains. Recently, heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR has exacerbated the issue. A video shared by an Instagram user shows the concerning situation. In the video he showed his luxury cars , including a Mercedes and BMW, along with a Hyundai i20, submerged in rain water mixed with garbage. The user claims the flooding occurred after just two hours of rain.

The footage further shows several high-end cars partially or completely submerged in waterlogged streets. The incident happened in Sector 57 of Gurgaon where residents and commuters were caught off guard by the rain, raising concerns about the city's drainage system.

The video, which was shared just a day ago has so far amassed more than 3 million views, 1.37 lakh likes and over 91,000 shares so far. The incident has once again sparked concerns about the city's infrastructure and its preparedness to handle heavy rainfall.

Car damage in waterlogging: Is it covered in insurance ?

While a third-party insurance doesn’t provide full protection, comprehensive insurance is crucial. While comprehensive policies offer broad protection, they only cover up to a certain extent. Floodwater can damage a car's engine, electrical systems, and interiors, leading to costly repairs.

That said, comprehensive insurance covers flood -related damages but applies depreciation based on the car's age, with a 50 percent depreciation on plastic and rubber parts. However, these policies may not cover all flood damages, especially if the damage is due to the driver’s intentional actions. For example, if you try to start your car after it was submerged, causing hydrostatic lock, the insurance company can refuse to cover the damages. Hence, if you find your car stuck in such conditions, contact a towing company rather than trying to start your car.
